Can Phoenix Government be anymore fucked?

So I’m going to start this off by saying I do not get involved in any types of political conversations generally! However this is beyond belief and I feel strongly enough to say something. I am even planning on going to the budget hearings over the next month.
So I woke up this morning to my morning paper, which I hardly ever read, apart from the Grocery store ads LOL However something on the front page caught my eye. Here’s the title of the offending post… ”Phoenix gives OK to 2% tax on food”
What the fuck! We in Phoenix have not been taxed on food since the 1980’s. Food is a basic necessity of life! How can there be a tax on that? People at the moment are barely making it by as it is, and now you’re going to tax the very food they need to survive! What’s next? Is the city of Phoenix going to start taxing the air we breathe? How about the sunlight that has been shining through my windows all morning?
This is appalling to me. I understand taxing toilet paper, paper goods, candy, and non-necessity items that we all purchase. BUT NOT FOOD! If the City of Phoenix needs more money in it’s budget to fund the police and fire force, then let them find it elsewhere! Yes we need the police and fire force, but not at the risk of starving our very own residents who have to make the choice now between buying needed food or having a bigger police force. If you need to raise more funds City of Phoenix, then why don’t you place the 2% additional tax on fast food, candy, alcohol, tobacco, or guns! Those are a luxury item and I feel a higher tax would not cause a detrimental effect on people’s lives by instituting the tax on those products.
I plan on sending this blog link to the City of Phoenix, as well as any comments that are posted. They need to hear how this would affect hard-working citizens and their meager incomes. So please if you are in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, I encourage you to LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! Also any blog readers from outside of Phoenix, please post your comments as well. The more responses we get, the more voices that are heard, the better chance that we can have this ridiculous tax be dropped and help save the lives of many unfortunate human beings who are struggling in this economy as is!
I also plan to attend the budget hearings and to have my voice heard there.
Like I said above, anyone who knows me personally, knows that I DO NOT get involved with anything political. It’s just not an interest of mine, and quite frankly bores me more often than not. So for me to make a stand on this, you can see who strongly I feel…
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this… Do they tax food where you live? Do you think it is appalling for the government to tax such a basic necessity of life? Do you think it is fair? Let me know…

I live in the UK and I have to say we probably pay more tax than any other country I can think off, but even in the UK the Government do not tax essential food items. They do tax luxury goods such as chocolate, cigarettes and alcohol, but they do not tax fruit, vegetables, bread etc.
I’m appalled that the US would do this to their citizens, didn’t the US just send a gazillion dollars worth of food to Haiti for free? But now they’re going to tax their own populace to buy the food they need to live. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
That’s messed up Faith.
